ASHINGTON is located alongside the new stretch of the A24 which now by-passes the village making it a much quieter place to live. The building of the by pass has opened up the village to housing development and it has grown considerably over the last few years. New and old have now integrated well and the village boasts a population of about 2,000. The building of a new Village Community Centre has given a focal point to the area and it is the base for many activities and clubs. Washington is a few miles away from Ashington on the west of the bypass. It is a small quiet village at the foot of the South Downs with a strong community life. Details of the local sports and leisure activities in Ashington and Washington can be found in the ASHINGTON & WASHINGTON VILLAGE DIRECTORY which is published in September every year and delivered free to every home in the Villages.
